"Conformity: Although he wants to be an individual, the male is scared of anything in himself that is the slightest bit different from other men, it causes him to suspect that he's not really a `Man', that he's passive and totally sexual, a highly upsetting suspicion. If other men are "A" and he's not, he must not be a man; he must be a fag. So he tries to affirm his `Manhood' by being like all the other men. Differentness in other men, as well as himself, threatens him; it means they're fags whom he must at all costs avoid, so he tries to make sure that all other men conform.

The male dares to be different to the degree that he accepts his passivity and his desire to be female, his fagginess. The farthest out male is the drag queen, but he, although different from most men, is exactly like all the other drag queens like the functionalist, he has an identity -- he is female. He tries to define all his troubles away -- but still no individuality. Not completely convinced that he's a woman, highly insecure about being sufficiently female, he conforms compulsively to the man-made stereotype, ending up as nothing but a bundle of stilted mannerisms.

To be sure he's a `Man', the male must see to it that the female be clearly a `Woman', the opposite of a `Man', that is, the female must act like a faggot. And Daddy's Girl, all of whose female instincts were wrenched out of her when little, easily and obligingly adapts herself to the role."

evolution of gender

In the perspective of evolutionary, the healthy males are more attractive among females, given that they will have more chance of survival and longer life-span. This might be explained in a context of the healthy life style in current society. Health conscious males are seens as more attractive due to two factors, the creation of a civilised society with a condtrolled environment and possibility of longer life-span.
the healthy life style promotes a longer-life span. however, the healthy life style is not only consists of longer-life span but also marketing side effects. Further it creats a loss of masculinity (traditional sense of masculinity) and males becoming more feminised. this should work against being attractive to females since, feminsation of male means physical weakness and less chance of survival. however, it is not the case. Since the society is controlled with regulations and laws and since we do not use stronger physical strength (other than lifting weights at the gym), the notion of attractive quality has changes dramatically. Also social construct of being a healthy male portraits the healthy male (some what feminised) as an attractive.
Thus this creats a very interesting change in female perspective of males being attractive.

Damn... I think I should stop thinking about thing on trams. It makes me go crazy.

The thing we talked about 'experts' in today's studies lecture started to bug me on the way home. Ordinary people becoming 'experts' and designers losing their expert status… Hmm… I still believe that designers were never the experts like users. I think they believed to be the experts and imposed those expert ideas onto user. I guess the movie “Kitchen Story” illustrate this fact. I know there are designers who are enthusiastic about one area and they are also an ‘expert user’, but after all, the product that they design for is the people who are going to use them.
Maybe, users are becoming better ‘experts’ in designing rather than passively using. With all the information about the product and how they are made and so on, users can start to think about improvement and the way to fix things in their own demands.

Then I stopped thinking…
